Rind

Distracted by the mundane happenings of her everyday life, she notices bad habits that were otherwise overlooked. These hovering obsessions take over her struggle to function and disrupts her focus. Her repetitive behavior takes charge of her mind and the way she views her body.

Rind, a short animated film, is directed and animated by Romy Matar, with additional animation contributions by Thomas Humphreys. The captivating sound design and mix are crafted by Marwan Tohme.
Running time: 5min

The film delves into the story of a character who, consumed by an obsession with her skin, develops detrimental habits. Though not reaching a point of intense pain, the accumulation of her habits makes her acutely aware of herself and her body. After an extended period of solitude, she finds herself in a public space, grappling with self-consciousness and the realization that her perception is entirely self-constructed.

Director’s statement:

The first half of the movie was produced in 2020 during Isolation and the second half was worked on in 2022. It unconsciously unfolds my relationship with myself during these two years: the transition from an isolated lifestyle, where my impulsive conduct characterised by my repetitive behaviour takes charge, to a sudden confrontation with the outside world in which my bad habits go unnoticed in an environment that I made out to be more intimidating than how it manifests itself in my mind.
